About Ontario California

Ontario is a beautiful city in California, and it was named Ontario as the model colony was established by a Canadian named George Chaffey and two of his brothers William and Charles. The city has one of the busiest airports in the world. The city is often known as the gateway to southern California. It was incorporated as a city in the year 1891, and in the year 1906, the northern part of the city broke away and called itself Upland. The city had a lot of German and Swiss communities. There were also a lot of European, Japanese and Filipinos who did agriculture work and laid roads.

Economy:

The city had a great soil for growing lemons and oranges, and this attracted many vine and olive growers. The southern part of Ontario is filled with dairy farming. The Garber Olive house is one of the oldest institutes which produce olives even today. The southern part of the city where the dairy farming was thriving is now turned into residential spaces, industrial and business parks etc. During the war, the Ontario airport was used as a training centre for pilots.

Art and culture:

The Granada Theatre is a famous theatre in the city, and L.A Smith designed it. The city also has a franchise known as “America’s largest interactive murder mystery dinner show”, and it was also voted as the best dinner show for many years. The city is also known for quilt shows, and it is said that over 40,000 people attend the show.

Sports:

In the year 2008, a multipurpose arena was opened, and a total of 125 happen in the field each year. Ontario Reign played here in the arena from 2008 to 2015. The 2010 ECHL All-star Game was hosted in Ontario, and it later joined Stockton, Bakersfield and Fresno to host the league. The “all-star game” made so much money for the local economy. Some of the clubs in the city are Ontario Fury, Ontario Reign and Agua Caliente Clippers.

Traditions:

The city has beautiful statues which are put out for Christmas every year. A craft fair is held every year in the first Saturday of December, and many merchants and artists come here to sell their creations and artworks. All-States Picnic is another famous event in Ontario, and it was started in the year 1939, and it was started to recognise all the residents in the city. The picnic was stopped during the world wars, but it resumed after the war was over. Every first Saturday of June, an annual Pancake breakfast and Car show is held, and many people come to eat these Pancakes.

Climate:

The city has very hot summers and warm winters. It is said to have a hot Mediterranean climate.  The highest temperature that was recorded at 46 °C and the lowest temperature that was recorded is −4 °C.
